"All the world's a stage..."
Roger has been writing music for the stage (as well as performing upon it) for several decades. He has performed in the orchestra pit for musicals, and toured with theatre troupes as MD/piano/keys.
Prior to his long term role as bandleader for Cirque du Soleil's masterpiece ‘Corteo’, Roger created symphonic Pops arrangements for several major orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra & the National Arts Centre Orchestra, for such artistes as Corey Hart, Lara Fabian, Claude Dubois, etc.
Roger Hewett has an established background writing and performing for varied large-scale special events and award shows. From accompanying Gino Vannelli for a beautiful rendition of his ‘Parole per mio Padre’ for a televised tribute to hockey player Guy Lafleur, to arranging/performing for two Gala performances of Canada's ‘Governor General's Performing Arts Awards'.
Back to Cirque du Soleil, Roger's Entrance Music Suite plays faithfully before each performance of ‘Corteo’. Roger has also composed music for several award-winning Cirque artistes participating in international competitions.
Renowned for its quirky colours and varied emotions, Roger's writing is particularly noted for the rich quality of his orchestral and string arrangements (samples below).
